Gib'sea 80Plus

The Gib'Sea 80plus is a sailing yacht built in 1980 by the renowned French shipyard Gilbert Marine. Designed by J. Berret, this yacht offers a combination of classic lines and functional features that make it appealing to both recreational sailors and novice racers.

Construction and Design 

The hull of the Gib'Sea 80plus is made of polyester, a material known for its durability and ease of maintenance. The hull has a round bilge shape, which contributes to stability and sailing comfort. The deck is constructed with a sandwich construction, providing a strong and lightweight structure. The air draft of 12 meters allows it to pass under most bridges, making the boat suitable for various sailing areas. 

Sail Plan and Equipment 

The Gib'Sea 80plus is equipped with three sails: a mainsail, a jib, and a spinnaker. The mainsail is manufactured by One Sails and is tri-radially cut, ensuring optimal shape and performance. The Genoa III is a high aspect sail, designed for efficiency and durability. The spinnaker, from North Sails, offers extra speed and enjoyment on downwind courses. All halyards and trim lines are made of Dyneema, contributing to reliability and ease of use. 

Engine and Electronics 

The boat is powered by a 5 HP Mercury outboard motor, installed in 2020. This engine has only 100 operating hours and is equipped with a work propeller, ensuring efficient propulsion. The fuel tank has a capacity of 23 liters, sufficient for longer trips. Electronically, the boat is equipped with a depth meter, compass, log/speedometer, and a VHF radio, enhancing safety and navigation. 

Interior and Accommodation

Inside, the Gib'Sea 80plus offers sleeping accommodations for four people, making it suitable for weekend trips and short vacations. The interior is simple but functional, with a chemical toilet, a small water tank, and a 2-burner alcohol stove. There is ample storage space, including storage compartments and nets for the aft berths. The presence of a cooler that works on both 12V and 220V provides extra comfort on board. 

Safety 

Safety on board is ensured by the presence of a lifebuoy and a manual bilge pump. The boat is further equipped with a tiller extension, shore power with cable, and an anchor with line. The guardrail and swim ladder contribute to safety and ease of use. 

History and Use 

The Gib'Sea 80plus has been used for club races and leisure sailing and has undergone various improvements and reinforcements. The yacht is suitable for both sporty sailors and cruisers and offers the possibility to sail comfortably with two people. The boat was measured by the Watersportverbond in 2019, confirming the reliability of the specifications.
