Akerboom Kofferdeksalonkruiser

The Akerboom cabin cruiser from 1939 is an iconic vessel with a rich history. This steel motor yacht, designed by H.A. Akerboom and built at the namesake shipyard, represents craftsmanship and nautical tradition. The combination of a flared bow, smooth sheer line, and a pointed stern makes this ship a standout on the water.

With a length of 9.70 meters, a width of 3.00 meters, and a draft of 0.70 meters, this classic offers a stable and comfortable ride. The clearance height of 2.20 meters makes the ship suitable for various inland waters. The hull is made of steel and is designed to withstand both sheltered and open waters.

Inside, the salon offers an atmospheric interior with mahogany finishes. The corner sofa provides a comfortable seating area, while the open galley is equipped with a granite countertop and a four-burner gas stove with thermal protection. Sleeping accommodations include an integrated fold-out bed for two in the salon and two separate berths in the aft cabin. Ample storage is available thanks to various cabinets and drawers.

The manually operated ceramic toilet is located at the bow of the ship. Additionally, a hot-air heating system provides extra comfort on cooler days. The wheelhouse is equipped with a convertible roof that can be easily closed with snap buttons and a canvas, offering protection against the elements.

The Akerboom cabin cruiser is powered by a Volvo Penta MD3B inboard diesel engine with a power output of 36 hp. This three-cylinder engine, installed in 1973, has 62 running hours and is started electrically. Thanks to a flexible setup and a specially designed shaft coupling, the engine runs smoothly. The propeller shaft is oil-bath lubricated, and the exhaust features a water-cooled muffler with a through-hull fitting. The ship reaches a maximum speed of approximately 20 km per hour.

The electrical system consists of a 12V installation with a battery charger, inverter, and shore power connection. There is one battery on board with a total capacity of 220 Ah. The instruments include a temperature gauge and tachometer.

The exterior features a spacious aft deck with an integrated bench and cooler. The steering position is located inside and is operated with a single rudder and a hand-hydraulic Teleflex steering system. A set of fenders and lines is included, as well as an anchor with line attachment. A swim ladder also provides easy access to the water. Additionally, the boat comes with the complete original inventory, including authentic Akerboom shipyard crockery.

This ship is part of the 'Old Glory' fleet (OG No. 411) and is registered as a sailing monument with the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE). Originally built for a car importer of American brands, the cabin cruiser was considered advanced at the time.

Thanks to the fan-shaped bow and bilge keels, the ship offers stability on the water, even in waves and strong winds. The special bow shape prevents splashing water, ensuring a dry and comfortable ride.

The last maintenance was carried out in 2024, including an antifouling treatment.
